The Achievement Day Girls had a special mother/daughter activity this past week. We as leaders quickly pulled together a great fun-filled night. I wish we would have had more than 2 weeks to plan the activity. Imagine the stuff we could have come up with.
Our theme for the night was Buttons and Bows.
As the girls came in they got to play a fun 'Guess the Mother' game. We had collected baby pictures of as many mothers of the girls as we could. Then the pictures were attached onto a poster board and displayed throughout the evening.
Can you see me?
I then conducted the night and shared my own little thoughts on mothers.
I made a list of "What a Mom Really Wants For Mother's Day."
>To be able to eat a whole candy bar by herself and drink a glass of water without any floaties.
>To have my pre-teen drama queen answer a question without rolling her eyes.
>We'd like 5lbs. of chocolate that won't add 20.
>A shower, without a child peeking their head through the curtain, "saying Hi mom" just as you put the razor to your ankle.
>A full time maid that looks like Thor or Captain America.
>For her teenage daughter to announce, "hey mom! I got a full scholarship and a job." All in the same day.
>A grocery store that doesn't have candy, gum or cheap toys displayed at the check out.
>To have a family meal without the discussion of bodily secretions or a demonstration.
>To have a free day where you get to change your name and tell anyone.
>To be able to go to a store and browse up and down isle by isle.
>To be able to sit down at a restaurant with my family and not have some yuppie next to us moan, 'Oh man, why me.'
>Put on a clean shirt and have it stay clean for longer than an hour.
>To have someone come over when your house is really clean.
>To have their young children potty train themselves.
>Or better yet, to be the person that invented disposable diapers.$$$$
>To receive a huge hug as you tuck your little ones in bed. Or a 'Thanks mom, you're the best.' from their too cool teenager as they rush out the door.
Knowing that, then Yes! This is all worth it.
After my thoughts we split the group into 3 smaller groups for our 3 different stations. The first station was a game relay. We split into 2 teams and played, 'Button me up'.
The moms were blindfolded and spun around in circles. Then the daughter who was standing at the opposite side of the room called her mother toward her. Once the mom made it to her daughter she had to put a cardigan on her and then button it up. Quickly unbutton it and return to the starting line with her daughter.
The girls and moms had a good time playing. After the cardigan game we played 'button button who's got the button. This game lead to massive amounts of laughter and silliness.
Our second rotation was to the 'Strike a Pose' station.
Moms and daughters dressed up in pure silly fashion and got their pictures taken together.
Here are a few of our beautiful mother daughter teams.
The girls getting all fancied up. And Becky with her 3 beautiful daughters.
Sydney with her mom Kristen. And the mesmerizing Mackenzie.
Moms hoping I wasn't taking a picture of them. And the beautiful Marlie.
Our last station was a bow making station. The girls got to pick out their own colors and design their own ribbons and bow hair clips. The girls had a blast making pretty things for their hair.
We have some very creative little ladies in this group.
Here are some pics of the decorations. We held our main meeting in the Relief Society Room.

Before the evening ended we as leaders spotlighted each of our girls for an achievement or accomplishment they achieved. We gave a little description of the girl's personal goal or accomplishment. Then presented her with a certificate with her spotlight stated on it. Then the girls gave their mothers a had written note about how much they appreciate their moms and what their moms mean to them.
It was a wonderful event. I am so thankful for this calling and the opportunity I have to work with such amazing girls. They truly are the best and I love them all.
