Anniversary Weekend.

Tyler and I celebrated our 14th wedding anniversary on July 21st.
Our original plan was to take the kids up the canyon to roast hotdogs and marshmallows to celebrate. Sounds fun to me. But, when my good friend Kari heard my plans she quickly told me that was no way to celebrate. She said we needed to go somewhere overnight and make it a real celebration. She even backed her plan up with an offer to keep our kids overnight.
How great is she!
Our weekend started with Ty coming home from work on Saturday with these for me.

Then on Sunday, after church we dropped the kids off at Kari's and away we went.
Ty had made reservations a cute Bed & Breakfast called, 'Castle Creek Inn.'
It was cute castle with several themed rooms. We stayed in Ivanhoe. The room had a nice fireplace and sitting area.

The bed had a fancy medieval style to it.

The room also had a waterfall jetted tub with color changing lights.

It also had a fancy It had a balcony with a little table and chair set over looking a little creek that runs through the property. I didn't get a pic of it though.

After we checked in at the B&B we heading up to Park City for a fun night painting at a place called, 'The Paint Mixer.' The Paint Mixer is a socializing / wine drinking (not us, of course) place where an instructor leads a class step by step through painting a canvas picture.
When we got there, we chose a seat with a plain, blank canvas in front of it. Then the instructor introduced herself and explained how the evening was going to go. She would give us simple instructions and then played some music while we painted what she just showed us to do.
Soon our plain, white canvases turned into awesome paintings.
Tyler's turned into awesomeness.
Mine not too much.

At the end of the evening we both had our own masterpieces.
OK. with the help of Tyler, mine looked decent.
Tyler's painting.

Tyler fixing my painting.
I wasn't so good at shading and adding depth.
Before Ty started on my painting, my big dog looked like Chewbacca.
I also forgot to put tails on 3 of my dogs. oops!

Our finished artwork titled,
"Dogs Behaving Well."

After our night at The Paint Mixer, we headed back to the B&B and watched a movie.
During breakfast the next morning I commented to Tyler how quiet it was and how awkward it felt to be served an actual hot meal. As a mom, my food is seldom hot when I get to eat it. Did I mention how quiet it was!
After we checked out, we headed to an early afternoon movie. It was so nice to get away from reality (aka kids) and be just the 2 of us. It was a much needed getaway.

Thank you Kari for making me leave my kids with you and forcing me to go out with my hubby.

One Cool Dude!

Only the coolest kids wear their sunglasses inside.

And during dinner prayer.

 And while waiting for dinner.

 And during a quick nap.

 Now that's one cool kid!

Early Risers

Ty's dad was in town during the 4th of July holiday. He invited us to join him for the hot air balloon launch in Provo. The balloons start launching about 6:30am. That makes for a very early morning for us who live about 30 mins away.
Right as we were getting ready to load in the car, Don called and said the balloons were cancelled for the morning due to heavy rain and strong winds. When we broke the news to the kids they were a little disappointed but recovered quickly when we told them they could watch cartoons while we (mom & dad) went back to bed.

They look pretty good at 5am.

Booster!

I just got the best, little, random self esteem boost from my littlest 2 boys.

Sawyer came up to me and was cuddling with me when he says,
"Momma, you got the prettiest eyes."

Then without skipping a beat. Dawson pipes in with, "And the gosh darn whitest teeth ever."

Thanks boys for the little boost today.

Dawson the Polygamist

I am without words to describe my latest conversation with Dawson.
Here it is.

Me- What do you want to be when you grow up?
DJ- I'm not sure.
Me- Well, you should have a good job, so you can provide for your wife. What do you think your wife will be like?
DJ- My wife? I'm having more than one.
Me- Oh really!
DJ- Yep, here's how it's gonna work. I'll have 4 wives and they'll go to work.
Me- (laughing) Oh and are you staying home with the kids?
DJ- Yep, I'll have like 20 kids. I'll feed them, give them naps, and then we will all play video games.

That's how my little Polygamist rolls.

First and Last

I realized I never blogged pictures of my kiddos on the last day of school. Better late than never in this case.

Mackenzie on her first day of 6th grade.
Last day of 6th grade.

Xander on the first day of 4th grade.

Stretch!

Kenzie has had a goal in her little head for quite some time. Now this goal might seem rather impossible to the average person, but to Kenzie nothing is too impossible.
So now you might be curious as to what her goal might be. Well, here it is.
She has wanted to get her legs spit high enough in the air that her toe can touch the pully thing on the ceiling fan.
Yes, that really was what she wanted to be able to do. How many people look at their ceiling fans and think, 'I wonder if I can reach that with my toe.' Kenzie does!
Her attempts were so great, I had to get pictures of it.

She tried over and over again.

I'll admit, I threw this one in cause I loved how her legs looked.

Once Tyler held the chain still, she was able to reach it.

So proud of herself!

Her next goal for the night, a one handed hand stand.
And she did it.
Be impressed, be very impressed!

What in the world am I gonna do with this young lady.

Old Fashioned

As I was packing for Girls Camp this past week, Dawson noticed I hadn't packed my electric toothbrush.

He said to me, "Mom, you forgot your toothbrush." I told him, I couldn't take that one. He looks at me and says, "you mean you're not gonna brush your teeth for a week?" I said, "No," I'm using this one" as I held up a regular toothbrush for him to see.
He then says, "that's so old fashion." I chuckled and asked him what was so old fashion about it?
To which he replied, "It's real manual labor."

Guess this generation has become too lazy when using a regular, old fashioned toothbrush is manual labor.

Pinewood Derby 2013

Once again it was Pinewood Derby time.
Xander designed his own car. Ty helped cut it out, but Xander sanded it. He picked out the colors, and painted it. (with a little help from mom)
No, he didn't have the fastest car, but he had the one he designed and made himself. I was quite proud of him.

Aim Batter, Batter.

Take me out to the ball game.
Take me out to the crowd.
Buy me some peanuts and cracker jacks
I don't care if I never get back.
For it's root, root, root, for the home team.
If they don't win it's a shame.
For it's 1, 2, 3 strikes you're out.
At the ol' ball game!

As a child I remember sitting through little league game after little league game for my younger brothers team. And when we weren't sitting at a game there was always a game on TV. I remember going to Grandpa O'Connor's house and he always, without fail had a ball game on.
I guess the love of the game has been passed onto my littlest ball player.

Sign this little slugger up.

Girls camp!

This is what the week before Girls Camp does to my house!

My favorite mess of the year!

Glasses.

I have to post this before I forget it.

I took the 3 oldest kids to eye doctor last week and found out that Xander has perfect vision. The eye doc said, "He had the best vision of the day!"
We also found out, Dawson needs glasses. I was amazed to find out he needed glasses because he's never complained about blurry vision. He simply said to me, "mom, I didn't know I couldn't see." We decided we would get his glasses closer to school starting. I had him try on a few frames just for the fun of it. He actually had so much fun trying on frames he ended up trying on about 30 different styles. We found a couple pairs that looked really cute on him.
As he tried on frames, I made the comment, "You're even more handsome with glasses. How is that possible!" In true Dawson fashion he responds, "Now the girls are really going to want to kiss me. Maybe even on the lips!"
Oh, heaven help me with this boy!
Kenzie got glasses in addition to her contacts just as back ups. Plus it will be nice for her to have glasses at girls camp.

How cute is she.
